Top Seven Movies

Posted by on Aug 20, 2016 in General Chaos, Movie Reviews | 0 comments

I saw this floating around on Twitter last week, and I knew 140 characters wasn’t going to be enough to say what I really wanted to say about all these movies, so I decided to make it a blog post instead. Here they are, in no particular order. The Abyss Adventures on an underwater drilling platform. To tell you much more is to spoil the best thing about this movie. Main female character is the on who designed the platform.                 Aliens It’s got everything: creepy aliens, space marines, women kicking ass, and most especially witty...

Review of Captain America: Civil War

Posted by on May 27, 2016 in Movie Reviews | 0 comments

Okay, I think I’ve let enough time go by before reviewing that everyone had a reasonable chance to go watch the movie already. There will be some spoilers here, all below the jump, but I don’t think anything you couldn’t have gleaned from the trailer. Completely spoiler free review: It’s a fine movie in a similar vein to all the other Marvel Comics Universe movies that have come before it. Lots of action, some funny bits, some sad bits, lots of angst. More in depth and spoilery follows here. Look away! Look away! So, here are my takeaways. I guess it’s going to...

Hey, You Got Some Science In My Fiction

Posted by on Oct 19, 2015 in Movie Reviews | 0 comments

The hubby and I did our usual anniversary thing last week, dinner and a movie. Yeah, it’s a little cliche, but we like movies, and we like food. So why not? Anyway, the dinner was pretty great, and if you are in the Seattle area I can’t recommend The Pantry enough. We had a wonderful dinner chock full of apples with some fun people. But, that’s not why I brought you here, that was just to set the stage for the real purpose of this post. THE MARTIAN IS AWESOME YOU GUYS. Seriously, I’m not even messing around here. If you haven’t seen it yet, go out and get some...

Review: Only Lovers Left Alive

Posted by on Aug 22, 2014 in Movie Reviews | 0 comments

Only Lovers Left Alive is the vampire movie you’ve always wanted. You didn’t even know you wanted it, but you did. Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton are ancient, gorgeous, and shockingly human. Let’s get this out of the way: this isn’t a Hollywood vampire movie. There is no violence, very little blood, and all of the sex is off-screen. The vampires aren’t showy. They don’t run around doing vampire things like flying and jumping off buildings. It’s all about the characters and how they interact. In the way of many independent films, there’s no...

Review of Chef

Posted by on Jul 29, 2014 in Movie Reviews | 0 comments

Chef didn’t get a lot of hype, and I can’t figure out why. It’s the kind of movie that leaves you feeling good afterward, as if sometimes everything works out just how it should. Let me be clear: the plot is eminently predictable, and there are no explosions or twist ending. Chef is very simply a heart-warming movie about a man trying to figure out what to do with his life after a mistake threatens his chosen career. There are some spoilers ahead, but as I hinted to earlier, it isn’t anything you would haven’t figured out way before it happens. Jon Favreau plays...

Review of Amelie

Posted by on Jan 21, 2012 in Movie Reviews | 0 comments

So, instead of doing the last of my edits tonight, I watched Amélie with Ryan. I’m not sure if we’re the last two people on earth to see this movie, but I’m left wondering what took us so long. Actually, it’s kind of a funny story so I’ll relate it here real quick. Back in, geez I think 2002 or so, we started a Netflix account and had our movies delivered to us in those little red envelopes. I’m not sure why we had such a hard time with the whole experience, but we sometimes had movies that we just never watched and were too excited about other movies coming out and had to return unwatched....
