Back After A Brief Hibernation

As many of you knew I moved to Washington last week which was the reason for the two-week hiatus here on the blog. I spent the week driving across the country (3006 miles of distance from door-to-door). That was quite an adventure, but if I had to do it over again I’d allot more time for looking at random stuff along the way. As it was we did three 800 mile days which didn’t leave much time for sightseeing. And all of that speed ended up being for naught because we sat at the new house with none of our stuff until Saturday. Anyway, all of that aside the move has interrupted my...

Moving Right Along

First, in story news: Pre-orders are up for the first issue of Vitality, coming at the end of the month. If you would like a peek at the full table of contents you can see it here. “The Sorceress Who Had No Heart” is my favorite story that I’ve written so far, and I’m ridiculously proud of it, so I encourage you to run out and grab a copy of Vitality if you have an extra fiver to spare. Second, if you haven’t yet seen the new Shadowrun Kickstarter and you’re into cyperpunk and/or RPGs, run on over there and take a look. I dearly love the Shadowrun...

Friday I’m In Love

Posted by on Feb 6, 2015 in General Chaos | 0 comments

So I’ve decided in my finite wisdom that my ideal blogging interval should be once a week and I’ve picked Friday as my day (mostly because that’s the day I’ve been putting up my Purgatory, Inc. posts for the last month and it felt like a good habit to continue but secondarily because I have an unnatural affinity for the above-referenced Cure song). I’m not sure what I’m going to post about today, because I hadn’t really planned on anything, so this might be a failure right out of the gate. Let’s hope not. I’ve been thinking a lot about...

Holy Crap, I’m Going To Be A Full Time Writer

Posted by on Jan 27, 2015 in General Chaos | 4 comments

I found out just last week that I’ll be transitioning to full time writing a year sooner than I expected. This is both really great and really scary news for me. It means I finally have a fire under my butt to get me to treat writing as a real career rather than just something fun that I do. It also means that holy shit I need to figure out how to make writing work as a real career. There are hurdles to overcome, certainly, but most of all I need to figure out how to be patient with the road ahead. I know me. After a few months have gone by and I still haven’t made anywhere near...

First, a few numbers! Short Story submission statistics: Submissions: 39 Acceptances: 2 (both coming in January) Personal Rejections: 6 Form Rejections: 27 Pending: 4 Publications: 1 + 1 Honorable Mention   Novel query statistics: Submissions: 4 Form Rejections: 3 Pending: 1   I’m ridiculously pleased with my writing progress in 2014.  I submitted things! I published things! I experienced the horror that is rejection! All in all it was a great year for me and the first where I actually felt like a real writer. I learned so much about writing from my peers and instructors, and...

Goodbye, Dear Friend

Posted by on Nov 3, 2014 in General Chaos | 3 comments

<Warnings for Very Sad Things> Early in 2001 I was moving to a new condo–my first time living alone–and I was afraid of being lonely. I needed a friend, so I decided to adopt one. There were many sad cats at the Connecticut Humane Society the day I went to look for my new friend, but one in particular won my heart. She was a tuxedo cat who had been burdened with the unfortunate name “Mittens”. Put up for adoption because her previous owner couldn’t take care of her anymore, she was nine months old and utterly adorable. I couldn’t imagine why anyone...
