November Updates

So, I basically gave up NaNoWriMo this year after being out of power for the first week and completely unable to write anything. Then, out of the ether came a terrific character that I fell in love with and I got sucked back in. I’ve gotten near 13k words done in 5ish days, so I’m pretty happy with the progress, and think I might be able to make something happen in this magical month after all. Now, this is very different from my usual fare. It’s almost a pure romance, with some fantasy-esque overtones. I’m not even sure what genre it would belong in. The closest comparison I’ve come up with so far is it’s a bit like Game of Thrones with less politics and more romance. Anyway, so I’m trying to catch up on NaNo, but I’m not going to be all that disappointed if I don’t make it, because I was essentially cheated out of a week by that bitch, Mother Nature.

Last year’s NaNo story, then named Firestorm, now named Elements of Rebellion, will be going off to my editor next month. I’m pretty excited about that. It’s a lot more personal a story to me than Broods will ever be, though I love my imaginary werewolf friends.

Broods of Fenrir has a new blurb, thanks to MeiLin at The Blurb Doctor. Here’s a sneak peek at that:

Shapeshifter Brand Geirson was raised to rule the Broods of Fenrir, but he refused his birthright. Instead, he killed their brutal leader–his own father–and walked away.

For hundreds of years he’s avoided brood society, until a werewolf kills an innocent human woman and Brand finds himself dragged back into the violent politics of the shapeshifters. When the two brood women who mean the most to him come under threat, he must take up the throne and risk becoming the kind of vicious bastard his father was, or let the broods descend further into chaos–taking the friend he swore to protect and his lover with them.

The final draft of Broods is off at the formatter now, and I’m hoping to get the first pass back this weekend. That process was also delayed by my power outage, because I couldn’t get to my manuscript–it was securely trapped on my network drives which, of course, don’t work well without power. I had a backup on my desktop which also doesn’t do much without power. I couldn’t even get to my cloud backup because without power, there is no internet here at Chez Moore. Boo. Hiss. Anyway, at least I didn’t lose anything, just had my plans delayed by a week.

I have a few other stories percolating in various phases that I would like to put some work into over my winter break. *Yes, Grayson, Willa is one of them! :)* I also have to figure out what the devil I’m going to write for my Master’s Project and get hopping. Currently in first place in that race is a story I’ve been working on revolving around the subject of one of my flash fiction stories posted here, Running Dark.

That’s all the updates I have right now.
