Author Interview with Jaime Magee

Posted by on Oct 25, 2011 in Author Interviews | 5 comments

Today’s interview is another stop along the Romancing Your Dark Side Book Tour. This time I am pleased to host author Jaime Magee.

Here’s the blurb for her book, Embody:

Not many Scorpio’s are known for their patience, and Willow Haywood is no different. Her only desire is to love Landen Chambers and redeem the lost souls of Esterious, but the path to that desire is long, dark and dangerous…

Before Willow’s life had a chance to balance the sudden revelations and grief she had to endure to get to Chara a disturbing discovery is made. A photo, one that shows Willow blissfully embracing the flawless image of Drake Blakeshire; giving her not only proof that she had lived before, but that she had loved him.

Running away from the memory of Drake’s hypnotizing touch, and the prophecy set before her seemed like the logical thing to do. That is, until a dark dream reignites her passion to save the hopeless dimension of Esterious. Willow struggles to find patience – to learn everything she needs to know before she faces Drake again, but her eagerness is dangerous and one step in the wrong direction takes everything and everyone away from her – the only way to survive this trial is for Willow to remember who she is and what she really wants out of this life.

And now, on to the interview:

1. What’s the first word of your book? (You can exclude articles, pronouns or prepositions.)

Terrified

2. Tell me something about your book that I can’t find in the blurb.

There is a glowing passage that connects all dimensions of the universe. It is just as dangerous as it is beautiful. The travelers of Chara must face the threat of unpredictable storms of energy to find the ones that complete their soul.

3. In one word, describe your main character. (You can expand afterwards, but limit your initial response to one word.)

Enduring…Ok can I expand now???J There were several words I wanted to use to describe Willow Haywood because she is a very complex person. I chose enduring because she endures life altering movements with grace, leadership, and courage. Each of these moments make her stronger not weaker which is what I love about her!

4. Where does your book take place? Tell me about why you picked that location.

The beginning of the book takes place in Franklin. I never mention the state but I admit that it reflects my home town of Franklin, TN. I adore the simplistic charm of that town – it is very modern/ urban but the family values from before my times are still in play. It was an amazing place to grow up! After the beginning of the book the world around my characters is in alternate dimensions. These dimensions are only different from our world because of the decisions the worlds made as whole, and those choices play very closely to the conflict my characters must face.

5. Tell me about your favorite character that you’ve written.

Drake! I love all of my characters but he was the first to ‘haunt’ me. I never thought much of him when I first committed him to the story, but he saw things differently and screamed his side of this love story at me. He is intense – so intense I find myself tense at my key board when he enters the room or speaks.

6. What’s your favorite verb?

WOW I have a lot the last one I typed in my MS was – surpassed….I’m sure if I let this interview sit long enough I could find an even better one!

7. What’s the last book you read?

The Emerald Talisman by Brenda Pandos – Love this woman!

8. Who was your favorite fictional character as a child?

Cinderella – she taught me that if you stay positive and find reasons to be happy in your darkest hour that the world will repay you beyond your wildest dreams.

9. Tell me about an event that contributed to your decision to become a writer.

It was New Years Eve. Like everyone else I was thinking over the last year and what was to come in the New Year. I wanted a challenge, something that invited me to step out of the box of life and do something that not only I could leave behind for my children one day, but also something that allowed me to go anywhere and be anyone at anytime I chose. I would place deciding to write in the top three of the choices I’ve made – marring my husband – starting my family would be the only things that could possibly surpass how alive I feel when a story strikes me.

10. What would you tell past you, if you could send a letter back in time?

Meet Cynthia Garcia sooner ß- would not be where I am today without her!

  2. Thank so much for this stop ;)!

  3. Hmm, an interesting novel there. It seems to have everything: romance, some what looks like Urban Fantasy or paranormal and Alternate Universes.

But did you mean this novel hit you last New Years Eve??? If so, Wow, that was fast writing revising and publishing. My two finished novels have slowed way with beta readers and me getting working on the revisions.

But one thing, I could have missed something but what media is”Embody” published in. And where is it being sold?

Nice interview too to both of you. 🙂

  4. I LOVED your books & cannot wait for the next one to come out 🙂 It is nice to get to know you a little better from this interview and see how your mind works!

  5. Hi Jamie! I live by a Franklin, but it is in NC. Its a beautiful quiet little town that I vacationed in once, during the 4th of July. We had a blast! Your book sounds wonderful!! I can’t wait to read it!!
