For the last several weeks, my husband has been writing a word of the day–not necessarily every day, but a few a week at least–for me on the whiteboard between our offices. He’s a word-maniac, to put it mildly. The words he’s come up with are sometimes obscure, but always interesting, so I’ve decided to share them.
Today’s word is effluvia, noxious odors or gases.
A word from earlier this week is really what made me want to post these, so today you get two. Impluvium is a Roman architectural term for a cistern present in courtyards of Roman buildings. Check out a Google images search to see some very neat pictures of these.
