So long to devotion, you taught me everything I know

I finally decided to give up on A Perfect Crime. Maybe I’ll come back to it at some point but for right now I’m moving on. I think I’m going to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick, but I haven’t really made up my mind yet. There’s two other books I bought at the same time that I might try first. Valdez is Coming by Elmore Leonard and Midnight Come Again by Dana Stabenow. The one real problem with eBook Readers is that you can carry around thousands of books and be as finicky as you want. Unfortunately I have found that I’m quite fickle, I’m lucky if I finish a book these days.

I wrote almost two thousand words yesterday, it all came out very easily. The last piece of one scene that was rather a short and a larger piece of another scene. I’ve found that my scenes are all tending to be around the same length. I’m not sure if that is a product of my thousand word goals, meaning I unconsciously want to wrap an entire scene into my day’s writing so all my scenes are a thousandish words.  I’m sure when I go back through it and edit scene lengths will become a bit more arbitrary. I do know I have a huge section that needs serious cutting in the beginning of the book. We don’t meet the second main character for around a hundred pages because I’m so busy with world building and I think that goes on way too long. I’ve been wary of looking at that section because I know it’s going to be a big job and I don’t want to interrupt finishing the first draft right now. I’m really close, I can see the end looming ahead. I just can’t seem to quite get there. It’s like one of those bad dreams where you’re running but you’re not getting anywhere. You keep running but even though you’re obviously moving for some reason you can’t get where you’re going. My “to do” list only has eight scenes left, but I’ve been studiously avoiding writing those scenes. I keep writing around them, adding in things that aren’t even on the list. Ah well, I will finish it!
