Spare the stick, Spoil the writer

I started work on a short story yesterday, which was a bad idea. I’m trying very hard not to touch it again today and instead work on a scene I had left unfinished in my book, but it’s difficult. If I finish my words for today I will maybe reward myself (ha-ha) with some time for the short story. The story is set in the same world as the book, but it has a point of view of a character we never see in the book before anything there occurs. I suppose I could eventually use the story as an introduction, but I like where the book starts now and I’m reluctant to change it.

I’ve been listening to writing podcasts during my afternoon walk. I thought at first it was going to be a little too boring, because I usually listen to audiobooks. I’ve been having a good time. The only problem is that if I hear something interesting that I’d like to write down I don’t have a pen or paper handy. I think there might be a way to use the iPod Touch to record memos, but I haven’t used it for that so I’m not sure. I’ll have to look into it.
