Back in the Saddle Again

I had a few days where I didn’t write a word. I did quite a bit of editing though, I think that counts for something. I’ve revised several ideas I had in ways that I think will improve the story. I’ve added a half dozen or so scenes to the “To Be Done” list. I find it frustrating that rather than shrinking it is now growing. I guess that’s to be expected if you start editing before you even finish the first draft. I know I should just buckle down and finish it, but new ideas keep occurring to me and they are so good that I can’t resist dabbling with them. I’m sure it’s stemming from a desire to not see the process end. I feel like I’ve just gotten to know these characters really well, I don’t want to have to put my relationship with them aside just yet. I’m sure it’s something I’ll have to get over if I ever intend to write more than just one book.

I think I’m going to try writing a short story in the same world, perhaps a more extended version of my mini history stories that I’ve already written. Although I’m tempted to go a completely different way with it, more toward the horror vein.

I’ve been trying to put a label on the story I’m writing, but it’s very difficult to come up with just one, although I know I will have to eventually. It has aspects of at least three different genres but I wouldn’t say it really belongs in any of them. Strictly speaking, I would say that it is Science Fiction, in the most academic sense. It is based in science and is a work of fiction; however, it doesn’t follow the typical SciFi formulas.
